COMPLETE RENOVATION OF A PENTHOUSE

MARRAKECH – MAROC

An unconventional style

For their Penthouse, the clients approached us to design their home in the most fun, ecstatic and unconventional way. From day one, we followed an unconventional approach to the project, getting to know the clients on a personal level, listening to their stories and extracting the essence of their lifestyle.

The unconventional lifestyle of the clients led us to sit down with them in endless discussions to guide our design and adhere to their best needs. This penthouse was created for a young and sophisticated couple with their own way of understanding aesthetics and design. Together with the wishes of the clients, daylight was delicately directed into the space, creating different scenarios and atmospheres.

A PANORAMIC VIEW

The penthouse terrace has a panoramic view. Having a long continuous façade, constantly exposed to sunlight all year round, our first reaction was to play with interacting with the sun’s rays to create various moods and scenarios. Brass-finished metal panels slide along the glass allowing for a playful relationship with the sun. The custom pattern that appears on these panels was inspired by the overlapping and intersecting leaves of trees.

In order to deepen our relationship with nature, we have decided to work on Nature. A multi-level travertine platform elevates the reception space allowing for a Moroccan seating arrangement. Coloured pendant lights fall from the ceiling on one side, while on the other, the travertine platform embodies a single 3-tonne carved rock that acts as a giant planter. The furnishings and craftsmanship for this penthouse were imported from around the world, including volcanic basalt from Pompeii, wooden side tables from Bali, various fabrics from New Zealand, and Asian paintings from North Korea and Japan.

All design intentions for this project were strongly influenced by the rich culture of our clients. The clients’ personal stories inspired us to break out of the mould and break away from all design styles.
